Why we run...?
Over the years we have raised money for various projects: to build homes in Honduras, stock a local disaster relief trailer with supplies, packaged meals with FEED the Hunger and we bought children's multivitamins to distribute to needy kids on foreign mission fields. In our 8th year of raising funds for and awareness of mission efforts, we are planning to help with a local homeless shelter.
2018 To Benefit Western Carolina Rescue Ministries
We are thrilled to dedicate the proceeds from our race to Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. For the past 36 years, Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (WCRM) in downtown Asheville has been serving the homeless community. WCRM's mission is to help provide rescue, recovery and restoration to people in crisis. They seek to care for them with dignity, while restoring them to become healthy, productive citizens of our community. Whether it's a hot meal, a warm shelter, or recovery from addiction, they hope their compassion shines onto each individual they meet.
The proceeds from this race will help support some immediate needs at WCRM. These needs include:
- Bus Passes - which help provide transportation to and from jobs, job interviews, etc.
- Medical Clinic - WCRM has a medical clinic within their facility and while they do not charge their clients, they will be absorbing the cost of $25 per individual that visits the clinic.
- Multi-purpose Fitness Room - For women to work on their health while in recovery
- Landscaping - As needed throughout the grounds at WCRM
At Pole Creek Baptist Church we encourage, educate and provide opportunities for our people to engage and support many ministries. Visit www.polecreek.org to learn more or download the Pole Creek app.
